Peterson's Rules for Writing FRQs:
If you follow these six rules, you will do fine (so long as you know the material). You can try your hand on the questions below!
- Organize your writing! If the question has a prompt followed by a bunch of terms and concepts, you do not have to follow the order that they provide. Work in the terms in a way that best fits the flow of your answer!
- Define your terms!!! If you use a term, you better define it. Remember: merely using it properly in a sentence is not enough to earn the credit!
- Underline your terms! This is all about making the job of your AP reader easier.
- Provide an example that relates to the prompt! No random examples! make sure that each example offered is relevant to the topic provided by the prompt.
- If the question gives you multiple tasks, make sure to address each one individually. Don't just write one big block paragraph. Differentiate! (Bullet-point; number; letter; skip a line; etc.)
- Use complete sentences. Remember, even if you are bullet-pointing, complete sentences are necessary.

CLEP
What if I only score a 1 or 2 on the AP Exam?
Every year there are some who do not get the required 3 to 5 on the exam and therefore lose out on the opportunity to get that credit through the AP examination. If that should happen, do not lose hope! There is a second opportunity that comes through CLEP (College Level Examination Program). A list of offerings is included in the link below. It includes courses beyond this one and may serve as a means of earning college credit without having to take a course in which you are otherwise already proficient.
